Http Lite Facebook Com Login, Early this morning, Facebook uploaded a brand-new, slimmed down version of their app dubbed Facebook Lite to the Google Play Shop. Focused on low-end devices in emerging markets where cellular information is a little slower, we have to admit, we were plenty thrilled at the prospect of a 2G-friendly version of the normally bloated Facebook app.
Not long after installation, our optimism was consulted with cold difficult reality-- this app was little bit more than a wrapper for the mobile web view (ie, it's almost similar to going to m.facebook.com). Okay, so there are some essential differences. There's no videos (like, at all) and unlike opening Facebook in your phone's web internet browser, Facebook Lite will offer you with push notifications on your Android gadget, handy if you're waiting on an essential message and want to keep up with pals without needing to revitalize the browser.
The trade off? Facebook Lite-- which is advertised as less than 1MB (252KB), however in fact took up 1.16 MB after installation-- requests a reasonable amount of authorizations from your Android gadget, just like the complete fledged 114MB (after setup) routine variation of the app (only without the area information). Oh, did we discuss it's sluggish?
Even on WiFi, the app is sluggish to load, sluggish to scroll, and slow to switch in between News Feed, your messages, and notices. Even with a high-end Snapdragon 801 equipped Android gadget, the "app" straight up seems like molasses. However as we mentioned, you do get direct access to your messages without having to set up Facebook Messenger, so there's that.
We believe Facebook truly had something here and were really hoping for a quicker, lighter, less feature heavy, Facebook app for those of who do not require all the frill of sticker label stores and the like. Sadly, Facebook Lite actually just does not cut it.
