Facebook Lite Apk, Early this morning, Facebook submitted a brand-new, slimmed down version of their app dubbed Facebook Lite to the Google Play Store. Intended at low-end devices in emerging markets where cellular data is a little slower, we have to admit, we were plenty delighted at the possibility of a 2G-friendly version of the usually bloated Facebook app.
Soon after installation, our optimism was met cold hard truth-- this app was bit more than a wrapper for the mobile web view (ie, it's nearly similar to visiting m.facebook.com). Okay, so there are some key distinctions. There's no videos (like, at all) and unlike opening Facebook in your phone's web internet browser, Facebook Lite will provide you with push notices on your Android device, helpful if you're waiting for an important message and wish to stay up to date with buddies without having to revitalize the browser.
The trade off? Facebook Lite-- which is advertised as less than 1MB (252KB), but in fact took up 1.16 MB after setup-- demands a fair amount of approvals from your Android gadget, much like the complete fledged 114MB (after installation) routine variation of the app (just without the location information). Oh, did we discuss it's slow?
Even on WiFi, the app is sluggish to load, sluggish to scroll, and slow to change between News Feed, your messages, and notices. Even with a high-end Snapdragon 801 equipped Android gadget, the "app" directly seems like molasses. However as we mentioned, you do get direct access to your messages without needing to set up Facebook Messenger, so there's that.
We believe Facebook really had something here and were actually expecting a quicker, lighter, less function heavy, Facebook app for those of who do not need all the frill of sticker shops and so on. Regretfully, Facebook Lite really simply doesn't cut it.
