Offline Facebook - As much as all of us enjoy chatting with friends on Facebook, it can get aggravating when your web surfing is constantly disrupted by chat notifications and new windows opening. One way to prevent this situation is to set your Facebook chat status to offline. This setting will make it appear that you are presently unavailable, permitting you to search in peace.
Log in to Facebook and click Chat.
Next, click Alternatives > Go Offline to set your chat status as "offline".
You can reset your online status by merely clicking Chat (Offline) to reveal your good friends list:.
This setting is not well publicized in the app and may have gone unnoticed by lots of users. Open the Facebook Messenger app and choose your address book. Tap on the Active tab then toggle the switch displayed next to your username to the Off position:.
