If it's a picture of you that you took and tagged yourself in, you "own" the photo, and are for that reason in charge of its privacy settings. You can select "Only Me" from the drown down menu on the photo, thus:

Pictures that others have actually tagged you in will stay public, even if you get rid of the tag from that photo Whoever published the picture that your tagged in "owns" that photo.

To eliminate a tag, click the drop down arrow at the top of the post/ picture and click "Eliminate Tag":

You can also alter your timeline personal privacy settings. These are mine:



Go to settings from the fall menu:.



Then choose "Timeline and Tagging".

You'll be able to manage exactly what can be published on your timeline, and if you see somebody has tagged an image of you, you can remove the tag and decide to conceal it from your timeline.

Facebook will notify you to anybody who's tagged you in anything on your real timeline, at the bottom right of your cover picture.

In summary, only your own content can be made personal. Anything you've been tagged in by others will be public - however you have the choice to conceal this content from your timeline.
