Https Www Lite Facebook Com Login, Early today, Facebook uploaded a new, slendered down variation of their app called Facebook Lite to the Google Play Shop. Aimed at low-end gadgets in emerging markets where cellular information is a little slower, we have to confess, we were plenty delighted at the prospect of a 2G-friendly version of the generally bloated Facebook app.
Right after setup, our optimism was consulted with cold tough truth-- this app was little more than a wrapper for the mobile web view (ie, it's nearly identical to going to m.facebook.com). Okay, so there are some key distinctions. There's no videos (like, at all) and unlike opening Facebook in your phone's web internet browser, Facebook Lite will supply you with push notifications on your Android device, helpful if you're awaiting a crucial message and wish to stay up to date with good friends without needing to refresh the internet browser.
The trade off? Facebook Lite-- which is marketed as less than 1MB (252KB), but really used up 1.16 MB after setup-- demands a fair quantity of consents from your Android gadget, comparable to the full fledged 114MB (after setup) routine version of the app (only without the area information). Oh, did we mention it's slow?
Even on WiFi, the app is slow to load, sluggish to scroll, and slow to change between News Feed, your messages, and notices. Even with a high-end Snapdragon 801 equipped Android gadget, the "app" directly seems like molasses. However as we pointed out, you do get direct access to your messages without needing to install Facebook Messenger, so there's that.
We believe Facebook actually had something here and were truly hoping for a quicker, lighter, less function heavy, Facebook app for those of who don't require all the frill of sticker label stores and the like. Sadly, Facebook Lite really simply does not cut it.
